The Story of Beatdisc Records
For 30 years, Beatdisc Records has been a cornerstone of Western Sydney’s music scene. The store opened in 1995 by original owner Vic Aird, who at the time was a busy DJ working the Western Sydney clubs and still took on disco bookings in the early days. The CD business was booming in the mid-90s, and as a DJ, Vic found himself with an abundance of second-hand CDs he could sell for half the price of a brand-new one. And thus, Beatdisc was born!

A few years later in 1999, Pete joined the team as a teenager who spent most of his lunch breaks and wages from the nearby Hungry Jack’s in the store. He continually told Vic to hire him and how he'd improve the business. At the end of 2000, after Pete finished high school, Vic brought him on full-time - a teenager's dream! Pete eventually bought the business from Vic in 2008 when Vic decided to move on.
From 1999 to 2002, Beatdisc also had a second store in Penrith (Broadwalk Arcade, High Street). Vic sold that store to the manager, Chris, who renamed the store to Repressed Records. They eventually relocated to Newtown and went on to become one of Sydney's best independent record stores, and Beatdisc is proud to be a part of their story.
Today, we're proud to be one of the region's longest-running and most trusted independent music retailers.
You'll find us tucked away in the historic Queensland Arcade on Church Street Mall, right next to the train station and across from Parramatta Square. We’ve been a bricks-and-mortar shop on Dharug land for three decades, but our new website means you can now browse our hand-picked selection from anywhere!

More Than Just a Store
For several years, we were a Moshtix outlet and the official ticket seller for iconic festivals like Homebake and Big Day Out. More than a retailer, we’re a hub for the local community. We’ve hosted countless in-store performances, curated music stages for Parramatta Lanes, and have proudly participated in Record Store Day since 2010. Since 2023, we've also been the official record store for the Sydney St. Jerome's Laneway Festival. We're a friendly place to discover new music, get great advice, and connect with fellow music enthusiasts.

Having recently celebrated 30 years of business, we're more dedicated than ever to championing physical media, supporting local artists, and fostering a diverse and inclusive community where music is deeply appreciated.
